Information on urban solid waste and hazardous waste generation, recycling and waste management system in other countries is contained in the following Internet sites:

*Australia

 Ecorecycle Victoria

This site contains information on the performance of  kerbside recycling and re-use of materials  in Victoria. It provides details of publications and regulations in relation to recycling and disposal of materials. It also provides links to other websites relating to waste management and environmental issues.

* Germany

This site contains information on the waste and residual quantities from different selected economic sectors, the total quantity of wastewater and the emissions of some atmospheric pollutants and greenhouse gases into the air from chosen regions in Germany.

* Hongkong, China

Under Waste Minimisation, there is a Draft Waste Reduction Plan which contains information on the urban solid waste flows of various processing/disposal routes. It also provides information on the current waste collection, recovery and recycling systems in the region. Waste management cost estimates are also available.

* Norway

This site contains information on the quantity and processing/disposal routes of both municipal solid waste and hazardous waste. It also provides information on Norway's waste management strategies and preliminary results of their waste minimisation initiatives for both municipal solid waste and hazardous waste. Information about PCB, PAH and dioxins emissions from incineration is also available.

* Osaka, Japan - Site currently unavailable (13 May 98)

This is actually a frame site. To obtain waste data, please click Information on Environmental Policy & Technology from the side index. On the Environmental Policy & Technology page, please click Environmental States and then finally, under the Data on Wastes' section, please click Changes in the Volume of Wastes. Data on industrial waste generation according to waste types and industries, treatment and disposal, and also volume changes can be obtained from this site. This site also provides information on domestic waste generation, collection and treatment.

* United Kingdom

This site contains information on the waste generation, waste management hierarchy, waste reduction target and preliminary results of UK's waste management initiatives. It also provides information on waste management licences, sewage sludge generation and disposal routes.

* USA

 http://www.epa.gov/ceisweb1/ceishome/ceis_home.html
This is the home page of the Office of Solid Waste and Emergency Response-US EPA. It contains relevant information on the following areas:

  •  Toxics Release Inventory (TRI)

    Information on toxic chemicals that are used, manufactured, treated, transported, or released into the environment are contained in the Toxics Release Inventory (TRI). The TRI was mandated through the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-know Act (EPCRA). The TRI provides the general public and environmental organisations publicly accessible information about potentially hazardous chemicals and their use, making companies more accountable for their activities and enabling communities to make better-informed decisions on the management of toxic chemicals.

  • Hazardous Waste

    Information about hazardous waste program including identification, generation, management and disposal of hazardous wastes.

  • Non-Hazardous Waste

    Information about household wastes, municipal solid wastes and industrial solid wastes.
